About the Artist
Laura Miller grew up in Derbyshire where she enjoyed making art from a young age. She studied Business, before working in customer relations and project management for over a decade in England. After a life changing illness Laura took the decision to leave her corporate career and began a new career as a Mixed Media Artist under the name Sea of Curiosities in 2017. She developed various creative skills but worked primarly in sculpture, paint and assemblage, selling her work globally and attending various events across England. In 2025 she explored oil paint, rekindling love for a medium she hadn’t used many years. She decided to close the chapter of Sea of Curiosities, change artistic direction and follow her passion.
Laura is currently based in Buckinghamshire, developing a body of work in oil paint exploring concepts such as natures reclamation, escapism and mortality across both landscape and still life subjects. Her use of contrast and light create moody and atmospheric scenes that balance drama with tranquility, inviting viewers to pause inside the contemplative and quiet spaces.
Artist Statement
“My painting practice is like stepping into another world, it’s a slow, quiet and solitary process away from the noise, pressure and constant digital bombardment of the modern age. For me exploring the connection between humanity and nature is a thread I like to weave through my paintings, the beauty of nature intertwined with decay, the stillness in shadows and echoes of what once was. It’s a reminder that nothing is static, everything changes, transforms and fades, and in that impermanence I find unexpected beauty and sense of peace.”
